Bobbie B. Vass

Bobbie B. Vass, 79, of Fredonia passed away Monday Jan. 29, 2018 at home following a brief illness.

He was born in Nuttallburg, West Virginia in 1938 to Ronald and Charlotte Simmons Vass. He graduated from Shady Springs High School in 1956 and joined the Air Force and was stationed in Hawaii, Nebraska, Colorado, Taiwan and Okinawa, plus two tours in Vietnam as a flight engineer.

After retiring as a Master Sergeant, he was a plumber at the VA Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia, then moved to Florida where he was a maintenance supervisor at several different resorts in Destin. He was both an aircraft mechanic and aircraft electrician at NADEP Pensacola and NADEP Cherry Point before retiring for good in 2000.

Bobbie was a Florida State fan and loved to shoot pool. He was a life member of AmVets and a past member of Frank Acquavia American Legion Post 1344 and Post 340 in Pensacola, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Weaver Vass; daughter, DeAna (John) Hunnicutt; four grandsons; three great grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Jerry) Miller; several nieces and nephews; brothers -in-law; and sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 59, 156 East Main Street, Fredonia where Military Honors will be accorded by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard at 3:30. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
