James R. Moyer

GOWANDA — James R. Moyer, age 58, of Aldrich Street passed away Monday February 26, 2018 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility surrounded by family.

Jim was born August 7, 1959 in Gowanda. His parents were Donald Sr. and Elizabeth (Evans) Moyer.

Jim married the former Betty A. Henderson at the former Cattaraugus Wesleyan Church on South Street in Cattaraugus on July 23, 1983. Betty survives. Jim is also survived by 3 children; 2 sons Daniel J. (Ashley) Moyer of Gowanda, Matthew T. Moyer of Collins and a daughter Beth A. (Nathan) Ingerson of Frewsburg. Grandchildren Hunter, Jaina Jace and Colton along with a Brother David Moyer and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his parents James was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Donald Moyer Jr. Robert Moyer and Davey Moyer.

Jim worked various trucking jobs in the area, LCA Development out of Buffalo along with Agricultural Transport out of the Dunkirk-Fredonia area to name a couple. Jim also drove school bus for the Gowanda School District; he was fondly known as Mr. Jim to the kids.

Jim was an active and proud member of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department, Valley Hose #2 is the area of the Department he was associated with. He had nearly 30 years of service with the dept. At the time of his death, he was acting Vice President of the Department. Jim held several positions including President of Valley Hose #2, Past Assistant Chief, he also received Top Responder recognition for his commitment and dedication to the department. When his health allowed, Jim enjoyed bowling, he ran the Valley Hose #2 Bowling Tournament here in town for several years. He enjoyed fishing in his younger years and was an avid reader and SIFI buff. He was a past member of the Gowanda Jaycees.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda from 58 p.m. on Thursday. Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept. will conduct a prayer at 8 p.m. at the close of calling hours. A Funeral Service for Jim will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. from the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Dept Hall at 230 Aldrich St. Extension, Gowanda (please assemble at the hall).
