GOWANDA — Lucie E. Kaczor formerly of Boston Colden Road, Boston, NY and Center Street, Gowanda passed away early Friday morning February 16, 2018. Lucie was 95 years old.

Born in West Falls, NY on September 23, 1922, the daughter of Herman and Ida (Gerken) Ellis.

Lucie earned her teaching degree from the former Immaculata Jr. College in Buffalo (known today as Hilbert College). She taught fifth grade at the St. John the Baptist RC School in Boston, NY, retiring in 1976. She was also a long standing active member of the church. Lucie moved to the Gowanda area in the late 80s and became a member of the former St. Francis Cabrini RC Church in Collins Center. In 1989, she was the recipient of the Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker. Lucie was honored and acknowledged with a ceremony recognizing her many contributions to her faith, an award she and her family were very proud of.

Lucie enjoyed bowling; she bowled for over 20 years for the Hilltoppers team on Tuesday mornings at the Braymiller Lanes in Hamburg. She also enjoyed cross country skiing and walks in nature with her 4 legged companion Rusty.

Lucie volunteered for many organizations for many years. She was very active with the Cattaraugus County ECHO and was crowned the program’s Queen in 1994.

Lucie married Frank Kaczor on Feb. 21, 1946 at St. George RC Church in West Falls; Frank passed away July 10, 1981.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Rosemarie Sklenka of Ohio, and Maryanne (Craig) Sibley of Dayton, NY. Grandchildren: Bret Sibley, Heather (Shawn) Ferro, Jill (Brian) Blake, Jonathan “JP” (Angie) Sklenka, Matthew Sklenka and Daniel (Laura) Sklenka. Great grandchildren: Daniella, Weston, Madelyn, Sydney, Polly, Nathan, Claire, Ellen and Grace. Several nieces and nephews survive.

Besides her parents, Lucie was preceded in death by her siblings, brothers Lawrence “Shorty,” Robert, Theodore, George, Floyd and Raymond Ellis. A sister Evelyn Hanlon also preceded her as well as her companion and friend for more than 15 years Norman M. Schindler Sr.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. from the St. Joseph’s RC Church East Main St., Gowanda (please assemble at church). Interment to follow in the Griffins Mills Cemetery West Falls, NY.
