Stanley D. Gliwa

Stanley D. Gliwa, 93, of Dunkirk, died Monday morning, February 26, 2018, at Buffalo General Hospital.

He was born December 2, 1924, in Dunkirk, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Koval) Gliwa.

A veteran of WWII, Stanley served in the U.S. Navy, and received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation (Navy Command) Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Stanley retired from the former True Temper Plant in Dunkirk, where he held the position of union president for many years, and also at one time drove a semi truck for a local company.

His memberships include Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth, First Ward Falcons Club, Fourth Ward Falcons Club, Kosciuszko Club and Dom Polski Club.

He also enjoyed traveling, his flower garden and word working.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth (Mary) Gliwa; daughter, Nancy (John) Marron, both of Boston, NY; and grandchildren James “Jay” Gliwa of MI, Christina Gliwa of NC, Shaun Marron, Jonathan Marron and Kimberly Marron, all of Boston, NY.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, is his wife Delphine (Kozlowski) Gliwa, who died September 13, 2010; and brothers, Joseph and Chester “Tasco” Gliwa.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk, Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in Blessed Mary Angela R. C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery.
