Deborah L. DeCarlo

CATTARAUGUS — Deborah L. DeCarlo, age 64, passed away early morning Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at home surrounded by family.

Born October 5, 1953 in Gowanda, the daughter of Edward and Patricia (Schindler) Geil.

Deb married Dale A. DeCarlo July 6, 1974 at the St. Joseph’s RC Church Gowanda. Dale survives, as does their two sons, Joseph (Shannon) DeCarlo of Boston, NY, and Anthony (Dan Januchowski) DeCarlo of Lake Shore, along with her only grandson Ian DeCarlo.

Deb worked for more than 20 years at the former Ames Department Store in Collins. After Ames closed she went to work for New York state. Deb worked as a DA in the group Home in Perrysburg until her forced retirement due to her medical condition in 2012.

At the time of her cancer diagnosis, Deb’s main concern was to see her first grandchild born. Even though the doctors were skeptical she managed to fight and instead of the six months she was thought to have, she was able to turn it into nearly six years. Her last two years were spent with family and friends.

She moved to North Otto Road in 2016, where she lived next door to her Aunt and Uncle Lela and Bill Struble. Deb enjoyed the country living, the nature, birds and the flowers she planted, as well as being around family. Deb and her family were hoping for one more spring, one more summer to enjoy the warm weather, the flowers in full bloom, the sounds and smells of another season.

Deb was able to spend her final days together with her brother Mitchell from Georgia as well as her good friends Patti Grudzien and Carol LiVecche Maines. Besides Dale and the boys, Deb is survived by two brothers, Gary Geil of Buffalo and Mitchell (Melanie) Geil of Georgia, along with nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center Street, Gowanda from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s RC Church, East Main Street, Gowanda (please assemble at church). Deb will be buried next to her mother in the Pine Grove Cemetery (corner of Vail and Zoar Road), Gowanda. Fr. Joseph Porpiglia, Celebrant.

If desired, memorials may be made to the family to establish a college fund for Ian DeCarlo c/o Dale at 117 Broadway Road, Gowanda, NY 14070.
