Olinda Lus West

Olinda Lus West, native of Brocton, NY and life-long resident of Fredonia, NY, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Baton Rouge, LA on the afternoon of July 12, 2018 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Angelo and Mary (Russo) Lus and salutatorian of the Brocton class of 1943.

During WWII, she was recruited by the FBI to work in the fingerprinting department in Washington DC. Later, she worked for Curtis Wright Airplane Mfg. in Buffalo, NY, and American Locomotive in Dunkirk, NY. After the war, she became legal secretary to John G. Fitzgerald in Fredonia, NY, and most recently was Senior Library Clerk at Fredonia Central School District Library. She was also proud to be Fredonia Farm Festival Queen in 1973.

She was married to Merle Edgar West in 1948 and enjoyed 63 wonderful years together before his death in October 2011.

She is survived by daughter, Holly (Craig) Hart of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Catherine Jeanette Hart of Seattle, WA and Skye Marie Hart of Ithaca, NY; a brother, Francis Lus of Brocton, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters Norma Pryll and Josephine Lautenslaker and brother Charles (Janie) Lus. Friends and family will remember her for her dry wit and sage advice.

Visitation hours at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home and funeral services at the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, will be announced within a few days.
