Eugene L. Stebbins

Eugene L. Stebbins, 86, Tower Road, Boonville, North Carolina passed away November 4, 2018, at Wake Forest Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Gene was born January 26, 1932 in Westfield, New York, son of Elmer and Ella (Schroder) Stebbins. He attended Findley Lake and Clymer schools. He was a drummer in the School Band. Gene enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950. He served on the USS Howard J. Gilmore stationed in Key West Florida. He was a drummer in the Officer’s Club Band. He returned home to marry Eleanor (Eades) Stebbins September 18, 1954 and work for the Chautauqua County Highway Department in Sherman N.Y.. He drove snowplow and operated the Bemis Point/Stowe Ferry-boat for many years.

Gene and Eleanor (Ellie) were members of the Sherman Fire Department and Womens Auxilary respectively until moving to Westfield N.Y. to own/operate Gene’s Gulf Station on Route 5. He became a member of the Deutschmeister Band in 1972 and traveled with them to Germany in 1973.

Gene retired from the New York State Department of Transportation with 35 years combined service after Ellie’s passing August 26, 1986. Gene married again January 25, 1990 to LouElla (Lictus) Stebbins of Clymer, N.Y., until her passing April 7, 2015.

Gene and LouElla (Lou) were active in the Clymer Historical Society, Clymer Methodist Church, Cutting Cemetery Association, American Legion, VFW, Bowling, Traveling, gardening, and card playing with family and friends. He was a drummer for the Peak’n Mountain Boys.

Gene spent his remaining years with his daughter and her family in North Carolina. He continued to drum and play keyboard for his grand and great grandchildren. He will be missed by many. Surviving are his three children and step daughter;

Debora Stebbins Baum Taylor (Jeff), Darrell Stebbins (Denise), Douglas Stebbins (Penny) and Nancy Vanderschaaff. Grand-children: Robert Baum (Rebecca), Benjamin Baum, Corey Stebbins (Elizabeth), Tyler Stebbins, Dr Jennifer VandeVelde (Nick), Dr Christina Bereda (Dr Dave), Stephanie Thomas (Adam), Dr Isaac Williams, Simon Williams, Chad Vanderschaaff (Genie) and Justin Vanderchaaff (Niki). Great Grandchildren: Emily, Abigail, Tristin Baum, Vince and Willow VandeVelde, Jorden and Asher Bereda, Anthony and

Dante Thomas.
