Robert Charles Salerno
Robert Charles Salerno, 77, formerly of Fredonia, NY, died on January 14, 2019 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. He was born in Buffalo, NY, on March 14, 1941, to the late Thomas and Mary (Rotunda) Salerno.Robert was raised in Silver Creek, NY and received his education through the Silver Creek School system. On November 8, 1963, he married the love of his life, Shirley Bruno, in Silver Creek and had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.Robert graduated from the Jamestown Police Academy and had been a Fredonia Police Officer for 31 years. During his lifetime, he had also worked for the Kraft Corporation in Dunkirk, NY, before it closed, and was employed by the Rotunda Real Estate Corporation in Fredonia, NY.
He thoroughly enjoyed being around cars and was a founding member of the Lake Shore Street Rod Association of Fredonia and Dunkirk, NY. However, his greatest love was for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.Besides his wife, Shirley, Robert is survived by five of his children, Donna (Joseph) McLeod of Orchard Park, NY, Carol (Todd) Dyckes of Batesville, IN, Robert Joseph Salerno of Dunkirk, NY, Joanne Salerno of Dunkirk, NY and James Salerno of FL. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his brother, Dan Salerno, of Dunkirk, NY, his sister, Sandra (Frank) Romagnino of CA and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent and his daughter, Diane Vento of Dunkirk, NY. Robert’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 5:30 PM with the Reverend Joseph Walter, Pastor of St. Anthony’s Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service and may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main Street, Fredonia, NY, on Saturday afternoon, from 2:00-5:30 PM, prior to his Funeral Service.Interment will be held privately by the family.All arrangements have been entrusted to Michael R. Fantauzzi, Owner and Director.
