Donations are

library investment

Editor, OBSERVER:

The Gowanda Free Library would like to recognize certain members of the community who still believe that their public library is a valuable resource for their community.

Recently the library conducted our annual mail solicitation campaign and the following individuals as well as many others have been very generous in their donations to help the library provide services and programming for the community.

Please allow us to extend our thanks to the following: Wade and Janet Arnold, Mark and Caryn Benton, Karen Blake, Vivian Bromley, Ivan and Kay Broyles, Robert and Linda Dingman, James and Laurie Fort, Robert Gaylord, Carole Hansen, George Hutchinson, Doris Jones, C.F. Kurtz, Jim and Jeanne Martin, Ardath Niedwiedski, Donna and David Powell, Ruth Rohrich, Gail Rote, Paula Schueler, David Schwedt, Frances Sutter, Jaqueline Swift, Laura Voss, John Walgus, John Waterman Jr., The Wicked Glen, in memory of James Peters, and Beverly Varney.

This list contains the names of the few who have given their permission to recognize them publically there are still more who wished to remain anonymous. To date their generous donation have helped to raise $3,610.

Transportation

is an area problem

Editor, OBSERVER:

I am convinced that one of the real problems with employment in the city of Dunkirk and immediate area is public transportation.

On Dec. 26, which is usually a big shopping day, after Christmas, no buses! Even the folks trying to actually get to work at retail shops had difficulty.

It seems there was no prior notification of “NO” service, by CARTS. I see them all over the place on special runs. But, not necessarily when and where they are needed.

Has anyone actually done a study of where and when people need to get somewhere? I’m sure the money spent on the airport would serve a larger purpose if spent on public transportation.
