The People’s Column
Pomfret’s water is diversified
The headline, “Pomfret moving forward with county water” (April 24), misrepresents the town of Pomfret’s water supply systems because it deals only with the Van Buren Water District.
The town also operates the Chestnut Road, Berry Road, west side of Johnson Street, Martha’s Vineyard, east side of Route 60, Main Street Rite-Aid and North Town (Webster Road and Laona) Water Districts.
The Van Buren Water District is the largest of these districts in terms of number of customers, but the customers in the other districts sum to a greater number than the Van Buren District.
The Lake Erie shore drinking water supply cooperation of the city of Dunkirk and the Towns of Dunkirk, Pomfret, and Portland dates from the late 1930s.
