Twenty years ago — 1997

Representatives of Chautauqua County’s four housing preservation groups were in Albany to join with groups across the state in informing legislators of the severe local impact of Gov. George Pataki’s 1997 budget cut which slashes funding to the program by 75 percent. New York state’s housing preservation program is 20 years old this year.

Thirty years ago — 1987

From Just Between Us ….. Julianne M. Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack O. Allen of Collins and Meeghan McClain, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond McClain of Fredonia, participated in the Wells College January Internship Program. Miss Allen interned at the New York State Assembly Legislative Office in Albany, working with L. William Paxon, Assembly Member 147th District. Miss McClain interned at the Center for Correctional Concerns in Joliet, Ill.

Forty years ago — 1977

Debbie Larson, a senior at Dunkirk High School, is the Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Dr. David Larson of Dunkirk and Susan Richter of Randolph. Debbie has received a four-year letter for the girls’ swim team and is on Fredonia State’s swim team as part of the 3-1-3 program.

Fifty years ago — 1967

The employees and management of Dunkirk Radiator Corp. were honored by Sears Roebuck and Co. for “outstanding performance in manufacturing superior quality products for Sears during the past year.” A Sears “symbol of excellence” plaque was presented by Malcolm C. Reed, president.
