Thirty years ago — 1987

Robert C. Pine, plant superintendent at the Gowanda Psychiatric Center, is one of 15 statewide award winners in a newly-established state program designed to recognize and reward significant achievement by management/confidential employees. The awards were made for accomplishments beyond the scope of normal job performance. Mr. Pine was nominated as the key person of a team effort that resulted in the opening of the state’s first State-Operated Community Residence.

Forty years ago — 1977

Student of the Week is David Guy Guayasamin, 17, son of Sherry Guayasamin of Lily Dale and Guido Guayasamin of Cassadaga. A senior at Cassadaga Valley Central School, he ranks in the top one fifth of his class. David served as class president for two years and was voted one of the six top student leaders for the Class of ’77 in New York by the New York State Secondary School Student Organization. After graduation, he hopes to be accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Honored at the First Methodist Church of Fredonia were the Rev. Ward I. Hemenway, associate pastor, and Willard G. Conaway, a layman and member of the church for more than 50 years. The two were honored for their service in the church.
