Thirty years ago – 1987
Members of the Dunkirk Historical Society recently moved a red caboose to a new railroad display at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk. Society members have been in the process of restoring this caboose and a box car. Yet to be moved to the site is Engine No. 444 – the steam locomotive built in Dunkirk years ago and acquired by the society earlier this year. The locomotive is currently being stored at the Niagara Mohawk Power Co. plant.
Forty years ago – 1977
Student of the Week at Silver Creek Central School is Elise Neveu, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Neveu, Hanover Street, Silver Creek. Academically, Elise is one of the top students in her senior class, a Regents scholarship winner and a member of the National Honor Society. Elise is planning to continue her education in the field of art at the State University College at Fredonia.
Fifty years ago – 1967
A swimming pool in Fredonia became a reality with the announcement that a federal grant in aid totaling $49,970 has been approved. A local drive has resulted in matching funds being raised.
