Thirty years ago – 1987

Diana Pineda, a 17-year-old student from Bogota, Colombia, is a member of the senior class at Ripley Central

School. Ms. Pineda’s attendance at Ripley is through the International Fellowship Program. While staying in

Ripley, Ms. Pineda is living with Richard and Mary Ann Creamer. After her graduation from Ripley, she plans to return to Colombia to attend a language institute and to become a flight attendant.

Forty years ago – 1977

The Silver Creek Kiwanis Club recently celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Revere Inn. The club was formed in March 1937 with Allen J. Diefendorf, president of the then First National Bank, as its first president. Seventy people attended the occasion, including three charter members: Howard E. Collins, who was president in 1939; Dr. Ernest Homokay, president in 1942; and Howard Ward, president in 1965 and lieutenant governor in 1967 who had maintained a perfect attendance record during his membership.

Fifty years ago – 1967

A Franklin fireplace, both decorative and utilitarian and manufactured by Dunkirk Radiator Corporation for Sears, Roebuck and Company is on display in the window of the office of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce.
