Retrospective

Thirty years ago – 1987

Denise Wilson, a senior at Dunkirk High School, was recently accepted at the American Music and Drama Academy in New York City. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Omie Wilson of Washington Avenue, Dunkirk, Miss Wilson competed for the appointment in Toronto, Ont. She was the only high school student to try out in Toronto; the other competitors were college students from throughout New York state and Ontario. A prestigious school, the Academy alumni include such stars as Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. Miss Wilson has the starring role in the Dunkirk High School musical, “Hello Dolly!”

Forty years ago – 1977

Karen Budniewski, a senior at Cardinal Mindszenty High School, is Calendar Girl for the month of April. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Budniewski of 632 Washington Ave., Dunkirk. An outstanding student and treasurer of the National Honor Society, Karen has been accepted by Niagara University, where she will enter its School of Nursing in the fall. A cheerleader for four years, she also was senior director of this year’s musical. Karen will be following in the footsteps of her mother as she pursues a nursing career.

Fifty years ago – 1967

Ground-breaking ceremonies were held recently for the educational unit that is being added to the Brocton Free Methodist Church. Pastor of the church is the Rev. Walter Janowsky.
