Thirty years ago — 1987

Student of the Week is Laura Jacques, a senior at Brocton Central High School, and the daughter of Delos and Janice Jacques of Cemetery Avenue, Portland. She has played basketball and softball for four years and is a member of the Block B. Varsity Letter Club. Laura is president of the Business Club and served on the yearbook and newspaper staff. She plans to pursue a career in travel and tourism.

Forty years ago — 1977

Winners of the Smith League championship the past three years, Coach Ed Eaker’s Cardinal Mindszenty Monarchs have got to be given more than just an outside chance of making it an unprecedented four in a row. The big question mark is Don “Killer” Kuligowski. The multi-talented senior is seeing baseball action for the first time since his freshman year, when he was an incredible 11-0 on the mound for the Jayvees. Also available for mound duty as spot starters are seniors Dan Scaglione and Jim Noto, and junior Ed Tofil.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Betsy Roman has been installed as Exalted Star of Dunkirk Constellation of Junior Stars 51. For the 17th year, Wright Green has been elected president of Hook & Ladder Co. 1 in Dunkirk.
