Thirty years ago – 1987
Dunkirk First Ward Councilman Randal Goss and three other property owners whose property was taken through condemnation for the city’s harborfront project have filed suit seeking the return of their land. Mr. Goss, along with Fiore F. Conti Jr., and John and Lois Griswold have initiated the legal action against the city in State Supreme Court. They claim the city did not follow proper procedure for acquiring land through condemnation. The properties are all located between Main Street and Central Avenue, north of Lake Shore Drive East.
Forty years ago – 1977
Cassadaga was acclaimed the outstanding chapter and three of its members won awards as outstanding officers at the meeting of Region IX of the New York State Jaycees at the White Inn in Fredonia. Cassadaga, a third-year Jaycee chapter, won the award over 16 others in the region. Its president, Dan Crandall, was named outstanding local president in the region; Bill Astry — outstanding district director; and vice president John Kotar won an award as an outstanding Jaycee officer.
