Thirty years ago — 1987

Student of the Week is Dan Barone, a senior at Fredonia High School and participant in the LoGuidice Tech Center Electrical Trade program. Dan is completing his last year in the program at the Vo-Tech Center and has been accepted by Alfred University to major in Electrical Construction and Maintenance. He enjoys body building and competes in weight-lifting competitions. He previously won third place in an open meet at the Fitness Center. Dan works part time at Tops Market and enjoys working on cars and trucks in his spare time.

Forty years ago — 1977

Martha Woodbury of Woodbury Farms in Sheridan was in Washington over the weekend to receive her charter membership in the new international German Wine Society. For most of the 120 men and women from 17 states, the ceremony concluded what began for most of them when they traveled to Germany to study at the German Wine Academy at Kloster Eberbach. The gold, silver and bronze medallions of charter membership were presented during a formal banquet at the German Embassy.

Fifty years ago — 1967

V. William Hughes has been appointed head basketball coach at Fredonia State University College. Mr. Hughes, who will also serve as assistant professor of health and physical education at FSUC, comes to Fredonia from Roberts Wesleyan College where he posted a 20-3 season.
