Thirty years ago — 1987

Nearly 750 students will receive bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the 129th commencement ceremony of Fredonia State University College on May 16 in Steele Hall. College President Donald A. MacPhee will confer degrees. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan will give the commencement address. He is the only person in American history to serve as a cabinet member to four consecutive presidents: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon and Gerald Ford.

Forty years ago — 1977

Knowlton’s Photo Store located at the Dunkirk- Fredonia Plaza, and an established business in this area for 54 years, has undergone a change in ownership effective May 2. Cecil Knowlton, 512 Woodrow Ave., Dunkirk, founder and proprietor of Knowlton’s, has retired and turned the business over to Mark and Martha Lessinger, 106 Temple St., Fredonia.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glaberman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary today with a dinner party at Shorewood Country Club. The party was hosted by their three children, Mrs. Esther Kozlowski of Dunkirk, Saul Glaberman and Mrs. Glaberman of Fredonia and Mrs. Michael Wuhl and Mr. Wuhl of Westfield, N.J.
