Thirty years ago — 1987

A banquet on May 31 in St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia will honor Sister M. Nancy Zuchowski, CSSF, a Felician nun for 50 years. Planned by members of St. Anthony’s and St. Joseph’s parishes, the tribute has former Fredonia mayor Charles St. George as general chairman. Sister Nancy said that she always wanted to be a nun and left home at age 13 for boarding school at Villa Maria Convent in Buffalo.

Forty years ago — 1977

The Dunkirk Community Day Care Center opened this month in the hall of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church at West Fourth and Eagle streets in Dunkirk. Designed for preschool children of working parents, the center can accept only 15 children due to its limited size. Dottie Rexford is the teacher and acting director of the center. Its operations are managed by a 13-member advisory board of which Diane Trezenski is chairman.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Diane Rzepkowski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Rzepkowski, 326 Lord St., Dunkirk has been named a winner of the Allegheny Ludlum Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program. Diane, valedictorian of her graduating class at Dunkirk High School, plans to attend Canisius College.
