Thirty years ago — 1987

Carl Coon of Fredonia was honored at the Dunkirk Club’s “Member of the Year” party. Mr. Coon, an active member of the Dunkirk Club since 1968, was presented with an engraved pewter cup as a gift from the group. He had served as treasurer and chairman of the House and Grounds Committee as well as supervising much of the repair and renovation work at the Dunkirk Club over the years.

Forty years ago — 1977

An OBSERVER photo shows four Dunkirk city officials trying out tricycles at the Dunkirk Community Day Care Center in the St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church hall on West Fourth and Eagle streets in Dunkirk. The officials are Mayor Gilbert Snyder, Councilman Alex Uszacki, Councilman George Corsoro and Councilman at Large William Schlichter. They took part in the official opening of the center.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Mayor John V. Lindsay has ruled himself out as a 1968 vice presidential candidate and said that after he leaves his post as mayor of New York City, he has no ambition “to run for any other office.”
