Thirty years ago — 1987

Demolition of the former Ludeman Building on Central Avenue, Silver Creek is continuing. Demolition is expected to by complete within three weeks. Construction of a new Rite Aid Pharmacy will begin on the site this summer. Rite Aid is currently operating a store in the former Lodico pharmacy on the corner of North Main Street and Central Avenue. The Lodico building is also slated for demolition to make way for a parking lot.

Forty years ago — 1977

Mary Ann McHale, a senior at Cardinal Mindszenty High School, is Student of the Week. The daughter of Martha McHale of Mill Street, Collins and the late Joseph McHale, Mary Ann resides with her mother, two brothers and five sisters. Mary Ann is a member of the National Honor Society, president of her senior class and belongs to the Student Council. She is also vice president of the Girls Athletic Association and student director of the school musical. College plans focus on majoring in physical education at St. Bonaventure University.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Donald G. Corter, 5 Lowell Place, Fredonia has received a doctor of dental surgery degree from the State University of Buffalo. Jeffrey Banikowski, a 17-year-old senior at Silver Creek Central School, is the Student of the Week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene F. Banikowski, Main Road, Sheridan.
