Thirty years ago — 1987
Student of the Week is Christopher Goll, a senior at Cassadaga Valley Central School and the son of Mrs. Catherine Goll of Cassadaga. A Regents scholarship winner, he has been accepted at Alfred University where he plans to major in industrial engineering. Chris has lettered in varsity basketball, volleyball, golf and cross country. Vice president of the National Honor Society, he is a member of the Student Council.
Forty years ago — 1977
Lynn and Lisa Roeder of Fredonia have realized the dream of every “Donny and Marie” and “The Osmond Family” fan. The two sisters, accompanied by their parents, Harold and Marcia Roeder, spent part of one summer traveling with the famous musical family, then wrote a book about their favorite entertainers. The most recent word to the family informed them the book, “On Tour With Donny & Marie,” is being considered for a movie.
Fifty years ago — 1967
New York has gone into the gambling business with a lottery-a-month venture the state hopes will pump $200 million into public education each year. Forty-one check-sized sweepstakes tickets went on sale at 4,000 hotels, motels and banks across the state. New York is the second state to have a lottery. New Hampshire is the first.
