Twenty years ago — 1997

An open house was held Nov. 25 to formally announce the partnership of Evans & Evans, perhaps the only mother-daughter legal team in Western New York. Sue M. Evans and her daughter, Lydia V. Evans, greeted guests at their offices at 131 Temple St., Fredonia. Sue Evans opened her office on Temple Street in 1985 in partnership with William Custer. The women added that they travel extensively by regularly attending to court cases in Mayville, Dunkirk, Jamestown, Buffalo, Olean and Salamanca.

Thirty years ago — 1987

Mike Porpiglia has been selected as Student of the Week at Silver Creek Central School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Porpiglia of Main Road, Silver Creek and the youngest of five children. Mike is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society and AFS, president of the French Club and copy editor of the high school yearbook. He also serves as president of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Youth Group and has been employed at the church office, McDonald’s and assisted in the high school office. Voted “most friendly” by the senior class, he plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Forty years ago — 1977

Dana L. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hall of 3705 Bard Road, Cassadaga has received his Ph.D. in transportation and engineering from the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind. Dr. Hall is a 1968 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.

Fifty years ago — 1967

Twenty-six people have been left homeless after a fire damaged their apartment house at 37 East Second St., Dunkirk. Damage to the building, owned by Marvin Rose of 210 Temple St., Fredonia was confined to the second floor apartments. However, utilities were disconnected, curtting off heat and lights, forcing families to scramble to find alternative living arrangements.
