Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy refused to say whether he would return next season, leaving open the possibility that his 12-year tenure with the team could be over. Levy started a news conference by saying he would not discuss his own future or that of his staff before meeting with the Bills owner Ralph Wilson over the next few weeks to discuss the team’s direction. Levy was asked several times — yes or no — on whether he would be back but refused to give a direct answer. Mr. Levy, 72, joined George Halas this season as the oldest men to coach in the NFL. He took the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls, but lost all four.

Anthony Leone, age 9, of the town of Pomfret, was presented with a special award from the Fredonia Fire Prevention Committee for his courageous efforts in saving the lives of his family from a devastating fire that destroyed the family’s home at 9682 North Road in Pomfret on Nov. 17. According to firefighters at the scene, Anthony woke up when he smelled the smoke from the fire and then went to his parents’ bedroom to wake them. The three of them then went to get June Leone, 6, his sister, and proceeded to climb unharmed out a window onto the roof. Firemen said that if Anthony didn’t get his parents up, they, along with his sister, would probably have perished in the fire. The family had smoke detectors in the house but for some reason, they didn’t work.
