The Ames Store on Bennett Road will close its doors on Dec. 31. The Dunkirk Ames is one of 77 stores that are closing and the only one in New York State. The Zayre’s store in Dunkirk will remain open. About 37 part-time employees who work at the Dunkirk Ames will be without a job after the closing. Ames officials attributed the store closing to the duplication between the Ames and Zayre’s stores in the area. They service the same market. The Ames store in Dunkirk moved to its Bennett Road location in 1966 from its former location on Talcott Street.
