It only took a moment for Ron Brennan to make a difference. Mr. Brennan, a Forestville mail carrier, aided an elderly Forestville woman who was trapped outside her home. When he stopped to put mail in her mailbox, he heard her cries. The woman had been down for about an hour but apparently no one heard her cries for help. She had been climbing the steps to her house when she caught her foot and tripped. Mr. Brennan was able to get the woman into her house and notify her daughter. She was later treated for a broken knee.

In an attempt to cut down on the size of city government, Dunkirk Mayor Madylon Kubera says city jobs will no longer automatically be filled when they become vacant. Instead, an assessment will be conducted to determine if the job is really necessary or whether it could be abolished. Each vacancy will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine such things as whether leaving the post vacant would result in having to pay overtime to other workers or whether existing programs would be undercut if the job was not filled.
