LAWSUIT: Education verdict adds up
Eight city schools, including one in Chautauqua County, came up empty in an attempt to receive more state aid dating back to 2007.
Despite the claim by the districts that the state was denying the students’ constitutional rights to a sound basic education by not fully funding its own school aid formula, state Supreme Court Justice Kimberly O’Connor did not see it that way. In her decision, she noted the state is allowed to adjust school funding levels based on its own fiscal condition.
It was not simple arithmetic, but it includes a dose of common sense.
