SHERIDAN: Bitter pill for taxpayers

David Roach’s eight months of pay for no work is exactly why people get fed up with the public sector rules for workers.

Roach pleaded guilty to stealing equipment from his employer, the town of Sheridan, last April, in Hanover Town Court. His reward for the theft? Nearly $50,000 in total compensation for all the time he did not work as he was suspended by the town last spring.

By the way, Roach’s status as an employee remains uncertain in the town. Sheridan board members may terminate his position, though as a public-sector employee we may all be on the hook to pay his pension.

If we can pay for the crooks in Albany who have stolen while being public servants, we also can be on the hook for those who have done crimes locally as well.
