One facility worth effort

Bigger is not always better, but often it is more efficient and cost-effective — and that is what Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas continues to look at when considering the future. Last week, Rosas brought forth a plan that could put the police and fire under one roof in the city.

“We put in this grant … for a municipal building,” he said during the Public Safety Committee meeting. “It would consolidate our police and fire (departments) into one location.

“We’ve (sent the grant application) up to Albany, we made the deadline, and we’re waiting to hear back.”

Even without the grant, the city still needs partners to better its chance of getting the funding with New York state in this era. Maybe the town of Dunkirk or Sheridan would be a possibility.

But looking at Dunkirk police and fire in one facility — that is not City Hall — is worth keeping on the table.
