Fredonia schools may be a leader when it comes to being open to mergers and sharing of services, but it fails when it comes to the calendar.

Recently, the district decided to stick to a two-week spring break instead of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services recommendation of one week in February and another around Easter. Currently, the second week of the two-week break is in progress.

But not all are enjoying the break. Those who are BOCES students through the district are expected to be in those classes.

On Monday, we hailed recently retired Superintendent Paul DiFonzo for his regional thinking. He knew if mergers were to work, there needed to be one regional calendar.

This decision does not assist with that issue.
