Warehouse plan brings possibilities

Investment in a vacant warehouse in Fredonia could be the start of something big.

Last week, village officials heard about a plan to convert the structure at 50 W. Main St. into a theatrical performance hub. “What I envision there is a theatrical performance area that is also versatile enough to be changed over to a film studio, as well as to a music venue,” Ted Sharon of Venture Productions said at the June 26 meeting.

Apartments as well as other specialty shops could be a part of the facility as well, if grant money through New York state comes through.

This is welcome news for a village that seems to lack an identity for its downtown. In recent years, a number of buildings and storefronts have become vacant. This project offers the chance at some new life for the struggling Main Street area.

“I think it’s exactly what we need — the first step in downtown revitalization,” Mayor Athanasia Landis said.

We concur.
