Going ‘proud’ for 50 years
Fifty years of sweetness in the annual Festival of Grapes came to a conclusion on Sunday. The three-day event, which was well attended, highlighted the county’s famous crop, community organizations and past participants.
It brought plenty of life to downtown Silver Creek. “We’re just so happy,” said Lisa Romano, one of the chief organizers of the event. “We’re happy that we made it to this milestone. I’m so happy and so proud to be part of this board. It’s near and dear to my heart, and as long as I am up and moving and everyone else is on the board and wants to participate, this festival will never go away. We will always be here to give this back to the community.”
On Friday, it was learned through Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office that the festival is the longest consecutive and volunteer-run of its type in the state. That’s a testament of the dedication by current — and previous — board members.
