Happy returns for prevention
A photo on our front page Saturday spoke volumes. It featured village of North Collins officer Phil Tremblay standing in front of a number of prescription drugs and needles. It was not everything the department collected, but it was enough.
On Oct. 28, the department reported a four-hour drug take back program with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration took in more than 78 pounds of drugs and 45 pounds of needles. It was a record for the program.
Considering the size of North Collins, that’s a great deal. Consider even how much more gets returned when area departments handle the effort in Dunkirk-Fredonia.
America faces a drug crisis. We applaud these efforts and remind residents that some locations — including Fredonia Police, Westfield Police and the Silver Creek Court Clerk’s office — have collection boxes for unused prescriptions to be dropped off.
