Key races around region

We are offering no endorsements in these contests, but note there are some excellent races taking place on Tuesday in the area towns.

In Pomfret, incumbents Brett Christy and Christopher Schaeffer face a challenge from Michael Reynolds. Voters will choose two candidates on this line. Reynolds noted in the League of Women Voters debate he aims to control spending and look for shared regional solutions, which Christy also mentioned. Schaeffer was not in attendance at the event. Also in the town, incumbent Dan Bigelow faces a challenge from Joel Chimera regarding for highway superintendent.

It’s been awhile since there has been a race for clerk in the town of Sheridan. For three decades, Julie Szumigala has overseen the office. Those vying for the post include Susan Bigler and Rebecca Schafer. There also is a contest for Town Board with Ann Tofil, Richard Feinen and Craig Sutton seeking two seats.

Hanover has a hotly contested race for town justice. Wayne Ashley, Phil Hall and Anthony Pearl are on the ballot for jurist while four candidates — Bernard Feldman, Peter Gibson, Adam Karnes and Edwards Schintzius — seek two seats on the board.
