Athenex: Ramping up for future

Northern Chautauqua County’s skeptical attitudes about the future Athenex site are being tempered with recent items in the news.

First, site plans for the facility are being looked at by the Dunkirk Town Planning Board. Chairman Jay Warren acknowledged the significance of the meeting last Monday. “We’ve made a lot of progress and we have been meeting monthly to get this on track as quickly as possible,” he said.

On the next day, the announcement came of the Battery Point Villas, which will be located in close proximity to the future manufacturing site. It’s upscale housing that is definitely needed.

This week, on Wednesday, there is a meet and greet planned. The Southern Tier Builders Association, the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency and the Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism have set up the event regarding the major project. The meeting will be between 2 and 3:30 p.m. in Jamestown Community College’s North County Training Center at 10785 Bennett Road.

Athenex is already here — and more opportunities are likely to come with it.
