HOCKEY: Devils provide some excitement

There is finally some hockey to be proud of in Western New York and it is courtesy of the Fredonia Blue Devils. After upsetting nationally ranked Oswego on Saturday, the Devils (13-10-4) will head to Geneseo this weekend to take on the Knights for the State University of New York Athletic Conference championship.

It has been quite a run for the hockey team, which needed to win its final two games against Morrisville earlier this month to even qualify for the postseason. Saturday’s win puts the team in the SUNYAC title game for the first time since 2011 — and seventh time in program history.

Throughout these campaigns, the team has been led by Coach Jeff Meredith. In December, Meredith recorded his 400th win in his 30th season. Another milestone — the SUNYAC championship — is now within reach for this special team.
