girls hoops Special day for rivals

Two rival teams with major accomplishments met on Sunday afternoon at Buffalo State College in a memorable Section VI B1 final. For victorious Fredonia, it was about continuing a fantastic run that builds on last year’s special team.

For Dunkirk, however, it was history. The girls team, with a great nucleus for next year, had reached the final. “I wanted to thank the community for coming out to support us,” said Coach Darnell Baldwin. “For them to come out in the championship game like that, I think that was stellar. I’m just sorry we couldn’t bring it home.”

The Marauders, seeded 11th, have nothing to apologize for after Sunday. There’s likely more to come next year.

Fredonia, however, continues its magical run — against Southwestern, on Wednesday, of course.
