Primary: Results show little interest

What a paltry turnout. Undecided Democrats — who are supposed to be united in defeating incumbent U.S. Congressional Rep. Tom Reed — seemed uninspired in the Tuesday primary.

With five candidates in the mix, only some 21,000 voters cast a ballot. That’s disappointing, to say the least.

Max Della Pia, as noted on the front page, currently holds a slim lead over Tracy Mitrano. It’s a bit of a surprise as Mitrano’s camp was calling itself the front-runner in recent weeks.

But this primary participation, overall, was a dud. Just consider the 2016 election in this district. Then, 118,584 voted for strong Democratic candidate John Plumb. It was still 42,000 less than Reed.

Democrats have seemed unorganized since then. Even the primary numbers back that up.
