Cherry Creek: Rewarding tough choices
Do a little more than 1,100 residents need two entities of government? Of course not. It is part of the reason why the village of Cherry Creek dissolved into the town.
Last month, Chautauqua County made good on a recent promise. A government that agrees to dissolve will have its sales-tax funds passed on to the town. In this case, it was a town of the same name.
“This is a perfect example of what can happen when elected officials from two different layers of government work together in the best interests of the taxpayers. I want to commend everyone involved who helped make this transition go so smoothly,” said County Executive George Borrello.
Legislator Terry Niebel, who sponsored the resolution for the funds, was also in attendance at the event.
Sinclairville and Cassadaga are other potential village candidates to dissolve. Will either take the step forward?
