Dunkirk received some good news over the weekend regarding the former Edgewood property on Roberts Road. The Krog Group of Buffalo will develop the site into a cold storage facility that will be utilized by Fieldbrook Foods.

“This is a project that saw many challenges along the way and I am very pleased and grateful that the Krog Group and Sonwil (Distribution of Buffalo) were able to come to an agreement that kept this project in Chautauqua County,” said Rich Dixon, chief financial officer of the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency.

It almost was a missed opportunity. The first site chosen was met with protests in the city — and led to a potential business backing out.

Getting this done — in light of the exit by NRG — is a bright spot. But we need those.

In the bigger picture, the development will bring a new energy to the site that has been an eyesore of late. That’s a welcome change.
