Entertainment: Area stars shine at lighthouse

Last summer, the area embraced the first Shakespeare on the Lake event at the Lighthouse in Dunkirk. In presenting “Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 2017, all shows were sold out with more than 500 attending the plays.

This year, there are two plays being presented at the Lighthouse, with the first already underway. From today to Saturday, “Twelfth Night” is being featured and next week, from July 24 to 28 it will be “Romeo & Juliet.”

Besides being at a picturesque location, the plays are under a tent and involve audience participation. It is a real treat that showcases local talent.

“We want to provide theater opportunities here and create a draw,” said SUNY Fredonia theater professor Ted Sharon, noting Tuesday’s masquerade gala event. “Fundraisers like the gala will help us continue to do that!”

Tickets for Shakespeare on the Lake are available at SUNY Fredonia’s box office: $14 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students. The gala event is $55 per person and $100 per couple.
