Roundabout: State yields on the plans

Maybe, after all, the state Department of Transportation is taking note of the opposition from area residents here regarding proposed roundabout.

The project, which was supposed to have been in the works earlier this spring, still shows no signs of starting at Routes 60 and 20. However, state DOT officials hint the controversial roundabout remains a possibility in the designs.

“We expect that is at least a month away at this time,” Susan Surdej, regional public information officer, told OBSERVER city editor Jimmy McCarthy on Tuesday.

Other factors, not mentioned by the DOT, could include the lawsuit from the owners of McDonald’s while one other issue may be more wind towers coming to the county. In a roundabout, there’s no way the mammoth towers and blades some oppose could make their way through the circle.

It’s still wait and see.
