Keep salaries out in open
Salaries are always a sensitive issue — in the public and private sector. But the belief that by passing a city budget, Common Council leaders are aware of all raises included for the coming year appears to be false.
During recent budget discussions, talk has centered around salaries of department heads. If city government wants to be open and transparent, they need to make sure council members know what those raises are and what those positions earn — line by line.
Dunkirk’s budget has topped $23 million. Residents — and Common Council members — have every right to know the payroll projections.
