highs and lows Some of the best, worst of the week

Here are some of the best — and worst — of the week:

BEST

JUDGE DEJOE — After 37 years on the Brocton School Board of Education, Thomas DeJoe is stepping down. Legally he has to, because he was elected as the Portland town justice. That’s a long time for any elected position. There’s been a lot of changes during DeJoe’s tenure, including building projects, sports mergers, full-day kindergarten, and the initiation of school breakfasts. We thank DeJoe for his tenure and wish him the best as he starts a new role in public service as a judge.

ADAMS ACTIVITY — It was great to see activity taking place at The Adams this past weekend. Formerly known as the Adams Art Gallery, The Adams held an open house which included music, a cabaret, a hockey tournament and a holiday market at the Central Avenue building in Dunkirk. We wish the new owners the best as they make the necessary repairs, so the building can be used on a regular basis.

NEW LEADERSHIP — We want to wish James Przepasniak the best as he heads into retirement after serving as the superintendent of the Lake Shore Central School District. He’s been with the school since 2005, where he served as an elementary school principal, and later as assistant superintendent. Jan. 1 Charles Galluzzo will take over as the new superintendent.

WORST

NEW DROUGHT — Last weekend the Buffalo Bills were officially eliminated from the post-season. It took the Bills 19 years to reach the playoffs last year, the first time the team went since leaving training camp in Fredonia in 1999. It seemed like the team turned a corner last year, only to fall once again into mediocre. Buffalo fans are patient but we don’t want to wait another 19 years.
