Salvation Army needs assistance
There is still time to help some of the neediest in our area. This week — seven days until Christmas — concludes the annual Salvation Army kettle campaign, which has locations in Dunkirk-Fredonia and Westfield.
As of Dec. 3, the Dunkirk Salvation Army was reporting a dip in donations. “Our annual Red Kettle Campaign is running behind and we need the community’s support to meet our goal this year,” said Major Chris Ramirez of the Salvation Army in the city. “With just 2 1/2 weeks to go, we have raised a little over $21,000; this is just 21 percent of our $57,000 goal.”
Dunkirk is not alone. Last week, the Salvation Army reported declines statewide.
Consider who you are helping when you hear those bells. According to Ramirez, 250-plus local children will receive after-school help. One hundred fifty families will get holiday assistance. And, on a daily basis, the food pantry is helping 170 families — many of whom are working.
All efforts in your hometown. Remember, every cent you give — including whatever loose change you can find — makes a difference this holiday season right here.
