FORESTVILLE: Giving spirit always evident
For nine consecutive years, Forestville Central Schools and its high school volleyball teams have brought both awareness and donations in the battle against cancer. At a recent school board meeting, district athletic director Scott Hazelton noted just how successful the Hornets’ Spike Out Cancer event has become.
“Year in and year out, these kids do an amazing job,” he said. “They’ve really taken ownership of it over a period of time. It really started as an event run by the coaches and parents, but the girls have really taken more of a leadership role by getting involved.”
This year, $2,800 was raised — and about $30,000 has been contributed over the course of the happening. Of course, we are hardly surprised. That small Forestville school, when it comes to contributions, always has a big heart.
