January 15, 2009 - John D'Agostino
Our area is preparing for what could be some of the coldest days in 15 years.
Back then, January 1994, I was living and working in Jamestown. I remember the cold spell quite well for the fact my Mazda 323 was just too cold to start most mornings around 9 a.m.
Others remember the freezing temperatures from being at the Buffalo Bills-Los Angeles Raiders game. On a frigid Saturday afternoon, the Bills were victorious. But due to the dangerous wind chills, only 62,000 of the sellout 80,000 were in attendance at then Rich Stadium in Orchard Park.
During that year, our area was not the only one to be in the Deep Freeze. Like this current cold snap, it affected the Northeast and Midwest as well.
Temperatures on this evening are expected to drop to -15 while the high is expected to reach 4 degrees. The good news is on Saturday, when it warms up to 22 degrees.
