Election Night Comments - Vince Horrigan

November 10, 2011 - Dunkirk OBSERVER
Posted by Nicholas L. Dean

Vince Horrigan won the Legislative District 17 seat on Tuesday with a total of 853 votes.

Horrigan replaces longtime legislator Dick Babbage, of Bemus Point, who is wrapping up his 20th year representing District 17.

Horrigan announced his candidacy as Babbage announced he would not be running for another term on the body. That article from June of this year can be read by clicking here.

Horrigan's official candidacy announcement can be found here.

On Tuesday, after the polls closed and results were in, Horrigan said it was truly an honor to have been elected to the District 17 seat. He said he's humbled by this opportunity to serve the public and believes strongly in Chautauqua County.

Of Babbage, Horrigan said:

"Well, he leaves big shoes to fill. He got an awful lot of things done in a way that I truly admire, and that's working together with people, it's reaching out.

So I intend to do my best to carry on the great legacy that he has left and continue to move the county forward and serve the people that are so important to how we live, work and play."
