Second live night of 'The Voice' underwhelms

I've got a lot on my plate today -- and Murphy's Law seems to be in full effect -- so I'm going to keep my assessment of last night's episode of "The Voice" short and sweet. What else is a girl to do while every program on her computer is crashing (with the exception of her web browser) but write about her favorite reality show?

In sum, my thoughts on the second live show of the season: I was not impressed. Should I be watching "The X Factor" instead? Blame sleep deprivation and sheer insanity for that suggestion. Britney Spears, "singer" of "E-mail My Heart" (remember that gem from her first album?), should not be judging a singing competition. Full stop.

Young powerhouse Trevin Hunte continues to prove that he will have a place in the final four. Well, he should -- I can't guarantee that a bunch of crazy teenage gals won't vote through Dez Duron and MacKenzie Bourg. I was on Twitter last night checking out the chatter on "The Voice," and actually saw some older women sending flirty tweets to 22-year-old Dez. It was a bit disturbing. I also just read that he dropped out of Yale to audition for the show. Hmmm. Trying to think of something diplomatic to say about that. I suppose we all make some puzzling choices in our early 20s. Right?

Aside from Trevin, I thoroughly enjoyed Nashville soul-singer Cody Belew, and I'll give honorable mentions to Nicholas David and Sylvia Yacoub. That's it. Sorry, Team Xtina and Team CeeLo.

Can we talk about song selection as well? I just can't handle any more Katy Perry, especially when it's twice in one episode. There's so many songs out there, guys! There's even some good ones that came out before 2010. Explore that.

Apparently, I can't figure out what crazy new rules "The Voice" has this year, because I had no idea the other two teams were performing live on Wednesday night. My apologies. The results show is tonight, when the contestants will be whittled down to 12. I haven't a clue who will actually make it. Does talent stand a chance when women and girls across the nation are having vote-a-thons for the young hearthrobs still standing? We will soon find out.
